 The first time I saw Star Wars IV: A New Hope, I was hooked on science fiction and space travel. The Star Trek movies made me want to travel to other planets. Alas, I am still Earth-bound. In books, I can go anywhere.  That's why I write action adventure stories.

My husband and I live in Michigan, close to our two children and five grandchildren.  

 I wrote Rescuing Mara’s Father for my grandkids. The oldest know I write adult fiction and have to wait until they are grown up before they can read those books. They're in 6th and 9th grades and are avid readers, as well as Star Wars fans, like their grandmother.  So, I set the story at an outpost on the frontier of space, the Outer Rim. In order to get off her home planet (to search for her father), fourteen-year-old Mara has to pilot a starship. Who wouldn’t want to do that? I want to pilot a starship. 😊

When I was in middle grades, adventure stories were no where near as plentiful as they are today. I’m thrilled that kids have so many choices. Stories that carry them to foreign lands or to alien planets expand their minds. That’s the point of my story. Widening kids’ (and adults’) imagination while entertaining them.

Because I wanted to differentiate my children’s book from my adult fiction, I wrote RESCUING MARA’S FATHER, A Middle Grade Science Fiction Adventure as D.M. Burton.  To talk about my book or ask questions, join my readers’ group on Facebook.

I also write adult fiction as Diane Burton, where I combine my love of mystery, adventure, science fiction and romance into writing romantic fiction.
